A local nonprofit focused on foster care and adoption has named a new executive.

Grand Rapids-based D.A. Blodgett-St. John’s hired Jeremiah Hawkins as chief programs officer, according to the nonprofit yesterday.

Hawkins brings more than 20 years of experience working with children and families across different systems.

Most recently, Hawkins worked as the senior program officer for the office of strategic development at the Department of Children and Families in Trenton, New Jersey.

Previously, Hawkins was an administrator for the Child and Family Services Agency of Washington, D.C. He also worked with Jewish Child and Family Services in Chicago and Bridge for Youth in Minneapolis.

“The CPO plays a critical role in leading and guiding the quality, capacity and sustainability of our client service programs, and Jeremiah brings great passion for the advancement of our mission and vision,” said Jim Paparella, president and CEO, D.A. Blodgett-St. John’s.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in family social science from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in social work from the Colombia University School of Social Work.
