A furniture dealer recently celebrated the grand opening of its headquarters and showroom downtown.

CEO Bill Payne and his son, Will Payne, VP of business development, hosted a ribbon cutting last month for the base of their new company, Trellis, in Grand Rapids, at 37 Ottawa Ave. NW. They moved into the space in the summer.

“We are thrilled to introduce our new showroom to the Grand Rapids community and showcase how Trellis will support local companies with the world-class, progressive designs and products from Herman Miller,” Bill Payne said.

Trellis, which is a certified Herman Miller dealer, was founded earlier this year after former Amway Vice Chair Bill Payne purchased three former MarxModa dealerships located in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and Traverse City.

Trellis assumed the lease at 37 Ottawa from MarxModa, which had held but not yet occupied the space, according to a spokesman from Trellis.

After acquiring the MarxModa locations, Trellis collaborated with Herman Miller on the interior design of its suite.

Around two dozen employees work out of the new space.

Grand Rapids-based CWD Real Estate Investment acquired the building in 2012 and recently completed an extensive restoration and renovation project on the seven-story former factory, converting it into loft offices, according to CWD.
