Therapy practice opens new office
A local mental health therapy practice has opened a new office on the lakeshore.
After seven years in Grand Rapids, Adolescent & Family Behavioral Health Services this month opened an office in Holland, at 493 Century Lane.
Valencia Agnew, the practice’s owner, said she expanded because a large number of clients drove two or three times per week to the Grand Rapids office to access its dialectical behavior therapy program. The amount of driving from the lakeshore kept some patients from receiving treatment, she said.
Agnew owns the 4,000-square-foot building that contains the Grand Rapids office.
She is leasing 1,800 square feet of space in the Holland building.
If the Holland office grows as quickly as the Grand Rapids office, Agnew suspects the space will be at capacity in two to three years. She already has let the building owner know of the expected growth and desire to lease more space when it becomes available.
The Holland office includes space to facilitate therapy groups and provide community training sessions.
The Grand Rapids office has two interns, nine therapists and four administrative assistants. One of the administrators was hired to take on work for the new office. Two of the Grand Rapids therapists are working in Holland, as well.
The practice is looking to add two more therapists in Grand Rapids and three to four in Holland, Agnew said.
There are currently 24 clients in Holland on a wait list, and Holland referral sources are ready to send more clients as soon as additional therapists are available and hours are expanded, she said.
The Grand Rapids office has seen more than 630 clients in 2019.
