University hires Coast Guard vet as AVP for business and finance
A university in the region hired a new associate vice president for business and finance.
Craig Wieschhorster has taken the role for Grand Valley State University after 25 years working for the U.S. Coast Guard. Most recently a captain and commanding officer, he has held various roles involving leadership, budgeting, resource management, performance metrics and operations.
Wieschhorster also has worked as a senior duty officer for the White House Situation Room.
He has an MBA through the Sloan Fellows Program at MIT Sloan School of Management, an MPA from The George Washington University, an M.S. in quality systems management from The National Graduate School and a B.S. in marine sciences from the Coast Guard Academy.
"I am certain that Craig's leadership and experience will be a great fit and a tremendous asset for the business and finance team, and the entire university, as we move forward supporting President (Philomena) Mantella's vision and new initiatives," said Greg Sanial, GVSU vice president for finance and administration.
GVSU was assisted by the Chicago-based firm DHR International throughout the search and interview process.
Wieschhorster replaces Brian Copeland, who is retiring Jan. 30.
A retirement celebration for Copeland will take place Jan. 30 in the GVSU Kirkhof Center in Allendale.
