Restaurant group opening fast-casual concept

A Michigan-based restaurant company is planning a third location of its fast-casual “fresh” restaurant concept in a suburb of Grand Rapids.

Mark Schostak, chair of Livonia-based TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants (TSFR), said last week his company is planning to open an Olga’s Fresh Grille in Alpine Township, at 4064 Alpine Ave. NW, by late April.

Olga’s Fresh Grille is a spinoff of the Detroit-based Olga’s Kitchen restaurant chain TSFR acquired in 2015 and moved to Livonia.

The first Olga’s Fresh Grille location opened in Royal Oak in August after the company converted the restaurant from Olga’s Kitchen to the new fast-casual and takeout concept.

A second Olga’s Fresh Grille will open later this month in Troy.

Schostak said the new concept came about in response to changing customer habits at Olga’s Kitchen.

“More and more of the business has been going off premise, meaning people are ordering to go or delivery or catering, and so … it requires a faster experience,” he said.

He added Olga’s Kitchen serves busy, “on-the-go” families, so the new concept was in step with that need.

“Olga’s Fresh Grille allows them to get in and out quicker,” he said.

Olga’s Fresh Grille features a limited menu condensed from the Greek-inspired cuisine of Olga’s Kitchen, including flatbread sandwiches, salads and soups with a Mediterranean twist.

The new concept offers counter service for takeout and dining in.

TSFR expects to hire 30 to 40 employees for the Alpine location beginning in March or April.

Founded in 1920, TSFR has a portfolio of over 170 Michigan restaurant locations under the brands Applebee’s, Wendy’s, MOD Pizza, Del Taco and Olga’s.

Olga’s Kitchen is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month.
