Sports commission opens downtown HQ
The West Michigan Sports Commission has relocated to a new office at 300 Ottawa Ave. NW.
“We are grateful for all the years we were provided office space by our colleagues at Experience Grand Rapids, who helped make the creation of the WMSC possible 12 years ago through collections in the lodging tax by Experience Grand Rapids and through Kent County,” said Mike Guswiler, president of the West Michigan Sports Commission. “We are indebted to Experience Grand Rapids and the Kent County Board of Commissioners for helping us get started, and now we can stand on our own as a fully independent sports commission with a sports-themed office space to wow our sports prospects and clients.”
The 2,500 square-foot office space was designed and built by Progressive AE and Westside Construction Services. It features a mobile workspace for its employees and visitors. There is a jumbo screen featuring highlights from national sports events hosted in Grand Rapids over the years. There also are wall graphics with athletes playing sports and the WMSC vision and mission statement in a color palette coordinating with the WMSC logo displayed.
Another feature is a WMSC-branded shuffleboard table for guests to use.
“Our office move signals a new era for our organization, putting us in a prominent space in downtown Grand Rapids in a modern, open-office concept with a branded sports theme that will provide a warm welcome for our visitors,” Guswiler said.
WMSC previously was located at 171 Monroe Ave. NW, Suite 700, where it had operating since its founding in 2007.
