Law firm selects leadership team

A local law firm has formed its 2020 committee.

Mika Meyers elected three attorneys to its 2020 Management Committee: Benjamin A. Zainea, Ross A. Leisman and Nikole L. Canute, who all practice at the firm’s Grand Rapids office. They will oversee the operation of the firm.

Zainea was elected to serve as the chair of the committee. He has spent nearly 21 years with the firm. He specializes in business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, business formation, general business and real estate law, estate planning, wills and trusts, banking law, securities and finance, franchise law, tax law, sports law and entertainment law.

He is a member of the franchise section for the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan. He also is on the board of directors for the Senior Meals Program Inc.

Zainea received his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School and his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan.

Leisman has spent 32 years with the firm. He practices civil litigation, land use and municipal law. He is a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan and American Bar Association. He also serves as a mediator for the Kent County Circuit Court.

He is a graduate of Calvin College, where he received his Bachelor of Arts. He earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.

Canute has been serving as an attorney at the firm for 15 years. She specializes in labor and employment law, employment litigation, energy litigation, civil litigation, fraud investigation and litigation, securities, arbitration and litigation, electronic discovery, computer forensic investigations and energy matters, including condemnation.

She was recently elected to the board of directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth. She also is chairing the event planning committee for the annual Women Lawyers v. Judges softball game.

Canute earned her J.D. from Notre Dame Law School her B.A. from Alma College.
