A local restaurant group is closing a small plates eatery and replacing it with a different concept from its existing portfolio.

Geoff Gaskin, president of Grand Rapids-based CDKI Holdings, said his company is replacing Zoko 822, at 822 Ottawa Ave. NW, with Sandy Point Beach House GR, which is expected to open next week.

Zoko’s last day of operations was Saturday, Feb. 1.

Gaskin said he is “working with” the city of Grand Rapids to relocate the tapas restaurant to a building he owns at 2130 Plainfield Ave. NE in the Creston neighborhood. He is hoping to open that eatery later this year.

Sandy Point Beach House GR will feature the menu developed for the first Sandy Point Beach House restaurant, in West Olive.

Dishes will include “traditional beach house favorites” such as prime beef burgers, fresh halibut, steak and frites, roasted chicken and mussels, along with weekly specials and an “extensive” cocktail menu.

“The opening of our second Sandy Point Beach House at our 822 Ottawa location will be a perfect addition and fit to the North Monroe neighborhood,” Gaskin said.

“Bringing Sandy Point Beach House’s standard of Live Jazz Thursdays, Easy Listening Music Fridays and our renowned Reggae Saturdays to the new Grand Rapids location this summer should make for a great time.”

Sandy Point Beach House GR will serve lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday, along with brunch and dinner on Sundays.

The restaurant will offer bar seating, community tables and traditional seating.

There also will be a special “chef’s table” near the kitchen.

The first location of Sandy Point Beach House was founded in 1960 in West Olive. It offers New American cuisine and a “vast” whiskey collection.

Zoko 822 opened in late 2017 and offered Basque-inspired small plates and an “extensive” gin collection.

CDKI Holdings’ other restaurants include MeXo Tequila and Mezcal Bar & Restaurant and Street Eats GR, a food truck court next to the new Sandy Point Beach House GR location.
