A local insurance company has nearly doubled its number of shareholders.

Grandville-based BHS Insurance last month appointed five new shareholders — Phil Arndt, Kim Slager, Ryan Root, Tim Koster and Spencer Olson — who will join its existing team of six shareholders.

Shareholders at BHS serve in a partner/owner capacity.

“These individuals will be a great addition to our core group of shareholders, helping lead BHS in the years to come,” said Steve Olson, BHS president.

Phil Arndt

Arndt is a licensed insurance agent and chartered benefit consultant. Arndt studied accounting and business administration at Grand Rapids Community College and Grand Valley State University. He serves as president of the Hopkins Youth Sports Program and is United Way volunteer.

Tim Koster

Koster is a certified public accountant and licensed insurance agent. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accountancy from Western Michigan University. Koster serves as treasurer of the Associated Builders & Contractors West Michigan chapter and the Northview Education Foundation and is a board member at Blythefield Country Club.

Kim Slager

Slager, a certified insurance counselor and certified risk manager, has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry in Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan. She joined BHS in April 2012. Slager serves on the board of directors for the Geneva Camp & Retreat Center in Holland. She received bachelor’s degrees in business and psychology from Hope College.

Ryan Root

Root is a licensed insurance agent of almost 18 years and a benefits adviser to employer groups. He is a member of The Employers Association and the National Association of Health Underwriters West Michigan chapter. He studied business administration and sales at Grand Rapids Community College.

Spencer Olson

Olson is a licensed insurance agent. Prior to joining BHS, he worked in group benefit sales for MetLife. He serves as president of the board of the Building Owners and Managers Association of West Michigan and is a board member of Artists Creating Together (ACT). Olson holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Michigan State University.
