Grand Rapids Home for Veterans wants your vote for $250K prize
A quarter of a million dollars is on the line for Grand Rapids — and no, we’re not talking about lottery winnings.
The Grand Rapids Home for Veterans is competing against nine other organizations in a national Home Depot Foundation contest.
The organization with the most votes at the end of May will receive the top prize of $250,000. Second place will be awarded $150,000 and third gets $100,000.
Votes can be made at the Home Depot Foundation Facebook page.
The $250,000 grand prize would allow the organization to remodel its veteran housing, said Tiffany Carr, director of member and community relations at Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
The facility won a Home Depot Aprons for Action grant in February and plans to use that $25,000 to build a greenhouse and patio for veterans.
The Grand Rapids Home for Veterans was established in 1886 for Civil War vets and has been serving Michigan veterans ever since.
The GRHV is located on 90 acres of land adjacent to the Grand River on the northwest side of Grand Rapids.
