A brewery lost a championship matchup today against an underdog in a national March Madness-style competition.

Founders Brewing Co. made it to the championship of Thrillist’s “Best Craft Breweries in America Beer Madness,” which drew "millions of votes" online.

The popular-vote contest saw nearly a month of voting come to an end last night, as the final round saw the South Region’s No. 13 seed, Four Peaks Brewing Co. in Tempe, Ariz., take down the Midwest’s No. 4 seed, Founders, 51 percent to 49 percent.

Founders made it through the loaded Midwest region, which included No. 1 seed Bell’s Brewery, No. 2 seed 3 Floyds Brewing Co. and No. 3 seed Goose Island Beer Co.

On its way to the finals, Founders fans voted the brewery past Central Waters Brewing Co., New Glarus Brewing Co., Pipeworks Brewing Co., and 3 Floyds, before besting Firestone Walker Brewing Co. in the Final Four.

Founders also made it to the final of USA Today’s FORTHEWIN “Ultimate Craft Brewery Bracket” last month, which saw Southern Tier Brewing Co. in Lakewood, N.Y. take home the title.
