Footwear brand throws kickoff party

A global footwear brand is opening a global sales conference this week with a private kickoff party.

Wolverine Worldwide’s Cat Footwear said last week that it will host its kickoff party this Thursday at New Vintage Place in Grand Rapids.

The event is expected to host 350 international guests for music, food, cocktails and art.

Sales conference

The semi-annual sales conference by Rockford-based Wolverine Worldwide takes place Friday and Saturday at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids.

The conference brings distribution and licensee partners from more than 170 countries across the globe to the area.

The semi-annual conferences in May and November inject $1.5 million into the local economy, according to Cat, citing Experience Grand Rapids data.

The party

The kickoff party will feature three American artists who will each reveal a pair of Cat boots, a denim jacket and a life size, laser-cut structure resembling a piece of authentic Caterpillar machinery.

New York mixed-media artist Ivan Orama, Detroit artist Chris Freitag and Brooklyn-based Misha Tyutyunik are the participating artists.

“These one-of-a-kind pieces of art will provide the perfect backdrop for the company’s distribution partners who come from edgy fashion capitals around the world, including Asia, Latin America and Europe,” said Dani Zizak, VP of global marketing, Cat Footwear.

The “non-traditional” fashion show will also be available on from 9 p.m. on May 14 to 9 p.m. on May 15.
