A college that hosts an annual awards ceremony recognizing African-American individuals and organizations has announced this year’s honorees.

The 38th Annual Giant Awards, hosted by Grand Rapids Community College, recognizes honorees for their “exceptional contributions in shaping the history and quality of life of the Grand Rapids community.”

Each award is named after a local person who has “demonstrated excellence and serves as a perpetual memorial to those notable contributions.”

The event is set for 6-9 p.m. Feb. 22 at the JW Marriott Grand Rapids downtown. Tickets are $100. The deadline to purchase ticket and sponsorship packages is Feb. 1.
