CD Barnes Construction selected subcontractor DeJong and Potter Electric from Wayland for its Key to Our Success Award for DeJong’s work on CD Barnes’ Timberview Apartments project in Grand Haven.

Elzinga & Volkers in Holland earned a dual certification for firestop standards by third-party testing and certification services, FM and UL, which helps companies demonstrate safety, confirm compliance, enhance sustainability and deliver quality and performance. The certifications make E&V the first member in Michigan and the eighth member of the Firestop Contractors International Association in the U.S. to earn this achievement.

Ranir completed a 5,000-square-foot addition on the second floor of the company’s headquarters, aimed at creating and launching new products in a more collaborative, innovative way. Ranir manufactures store-brand oral care products and value-branded oral care products under the Plackers and REMBRANDT trademarks.

Bradley Co. moved to the Waters Center, at 161 Ottawa Ave. NW, Suite 308, overlooking Grand Rapids’ Central Business District.

NAI Wisinski of West Michigan announced investment specialist Russ Bono earned the Certified Commercial Investment Member designation. NAI Wisinski now has seven agents that hold the CCIM designation. CCIM designees can help their clients minimize risk, enhance credibility, make informed decisions and close deals.

Midwest United Soccer Fields recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for their new soccer fields due to be ready spring 2018 at 3450 36th St. SE, Kentwood.

The city of Grand Rapids was recognized by the Energy Services Coalition – Michigan Chapter with the 2017 Leaders in Energy Efficiency Award for its $6.3-million project at the Lake Michigan Filtration Plant that included replacing boilers and piping, exterior and interior lighting, and installation of a geothermal HVAC system. The changes are expected to annually save $108,657.

E3M Solutions announced CWD’s Brass Works Building in Grand Rapids earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR certification for superior energy performance.

Oxford Financial Group signed a long-term lease for a 6,882-square-foot space located at 85 Campau Ave. NW. Oxford intends to relocate from a nearby office building because it cannot expand within the building. Construction is underway and is slated to be completed by the end of December. Oxford anticipates opening its new office in the first quarter of 2018. NAI Wisinski of West Michigan represented the landlord and Colliers International represented Oxford Financial Group.

Concept Design President Stephen Fry received the American Institute of Architects Grand Rapids 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award. Andrew Eckert is the recipient of the Young Architect of the Year Award.

Grand Valley State University Facilities Planning Department is the recipient of Builders Exchange of Michigan’s inaugural Sustainable Construction and Innovation Award for its ongoing commitment to the high green building standard of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

Kitchen and Bath Express opened a location at 1086 E. Sternberg Road in Norton Shores.

Custer Inc. opened a second office at 320 Hall St. SW.

Courtyard by Marriott hotel in downtown Holland general manager Grant Hirst was named one of 30 GMs to Watch by national trade magazine “Hotel Management.”

Delta Hotels (formerly the Ramada Plaza) by Marriott Grand Rapids Airport completed its total-property renovation and conversion to the new Delta by Marriott brand. Its opening marks the first Delta-branded property in the region and an all-new, modernized identity for the hotel.

The Ottawa County Park and Recreation Commission unveiled preliminary plans for an upgraded marina facility and enhanced park land on Lake Macatawa at its Historic Ottawa Beach Parks site. Plans calls for replacement of the existing marina with 46 new boat slips, extension of the public waterfront walkway, public restrooms, a universally accessible kayak launch and landscaped greenspace with seating along the waterfront for public use. The marina and waterfront plan represents the final step in renovating the Historic Ottawa Beach properties.

Holland Energy Fund in Holland was recognized as Innovator of the Year at the Governor’s Energy Excellence Awards for its energy waste reduction achievements.

The West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission received a $600,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. WMSRDC will partner with its West Michigan Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area partners, which includes Ottawa County Parks, to launch efforts to control and eradicate Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, an invasive species now established in Michigan that has damaged forests along the east coast over the past decade.

Rose & Westra’s new location is at the historic Widdicomb Building, 601 Fifth St. NW, Suite 102. The 3,100-square-foot office houses a staff of 12. Primary services offered to both public and private sector clients include commercial/industrial real estate property assessments; environmental process design; wastewater management; site development/redevelopment; regulatory compliance; and environmental investigation and remediation. Rose & Westra is a division of GZA GeoEnvironmental Inc., a multidisciplinary firm providing environmental, geotechnical, ecological, water and construction management services.

Wausau Homes opened a new design studio at 4196 Plainfield Ave. NE.

RE/MAX of Grand Rapids announced construction began on its 11,000-square-foot facility at 5651 Byron Center Ave. SW in Wyoming that will house offices for 60-plus agents, including private and semi-private offices. As part of a larger, 23,000-square-foot development project with seven retail suites on the first floor, construction is slated to be completed summer 2018.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the American Subcontractors Association of Michigan signed an alliance agreement formalizing a mutual commitment to workplace safety and health.

Rick Dawson was named manager of building products distributor ABC Supply Co. Inc.’s location at 2601 S. Division Ave. Dawson will manage daily operations, develop relationships with area contractors and guide them to build their businesses for the long term. He began his career with the company in 2015 as an outside sales representative at the Grand Rapids location before transitioning to manager of the branch in Hudsonville.

Lindberg/MPH in Riverside announced the shipment of a 1,500-degree Celsius heavy-duty box furnace to a university. The 1,500 C box furnace offers excellent temperature uniformity, rapid response rate, dense load capability and process repeatability, which makes it ideal for testing, research and development, and laboratory applications.
